Music Makes You Smarter!
Over the past few years, new scientific evidence has surfaced that
shows a dynamic link between the study of music and the development of
intelligence. There is even evidence that simply listening to certain kinds
of music can boost test scores in students. This listening corrolation,
sometimes reffered to as the Mozart Effect, was the most talked about research
item discovered by neuroscientist Dr. Gordon Shaw, psychologist Dr. Frances
Rauscher and their research team from the University of California at Irvine.
But the really significant findings were the discovery of an unmistakable
causal link between music and spatial intelligence. Spatial intelligence
is the ability to perceive the visual world accurately, to form mental
images of physical objects, and to recognize variations of objects . This
research has considerable potential to reverse the view of music and music
education as more or less irrelevant to intellectual development.
